Echuca by hoof and paddle

The day started before 6 am. Kelsie and Ethan woke and were on their iPads before Mum and Dad got going.

A morning swim was brisk, being in the water was better than being wet out of it. Mummy skipped this to do some recon on potential daily activities. Ethan brought his remote control boat to the pool, this was a lot of fun except the pool cleaner was in the way. I’ve obviously failed as a father since Kelsie took the whole remote into the pool with her when Ethan gave her a turn… there’s no water damage…yet.

A stroll into town for some proper investigations, the second-hand bookstore had a few gems, but the complete set of Noddy books, including the Gollywog, for over $300 was not one we are coming home with.

Ethan almost managed to leave his water bottle behind at the book shop again!

We booked a ride on the Canberra, the only paddle steamer running today. The steamer was buzzed several times by a 20-something and his girlfriend on a jetski, counting to 4 knots was obviously too hard for this lad.

Waiting to disembark we got to see the water marks left by the flooding. Daddy tried to do the math on the volume of water that flooded the port of Echuca… it was a lot, give or take a few million bathtubs.

No scooter for Mummy this year meant she was able to scale the carriage for a trip around Echuca behind the driver. Getting down was a little precarious though.

Mum had a Paddle Steamer cookie at lunch, from Beechworth bakery. depending on the angle it might have been a plane or some robot from Dr. Who. It was “the best Paddle Steamer cookie I’ve ever had” Mum’s words.

An afternoon swim caused the usual headaches, sharing fighting, look at me, it’s my turn, I need to go to the bathroom.

Dinner at Antonio’s was fantastic. Drinks were on Daddy, Ethan didn’t want the Garlic and Cheese focaccia, but Kelsie ate two pieces. Ethan was too tired for Icecream but Kelsie had Mango and Mummy had Passionfruit
