Hume Hwy: I’ve got lots of potholes and I’m slowing traffic.
Armidale Rd: Here hold my beer!
Leaving the Gold Coast there was only one thing left to do. Take a tour on the Aquaduck, including a sneak peak at the Gold Coast 500. A combination of landmark information, bad duck jokes and tour to the stars. We now know where Jackie Chan lives on the Gold Coast. Kelsie and Ethan got to drive the Aquaduck, Kelsie tried to tip us over. She was also in a foul mood since waking up, not wanting to be in pictures. Ethan got a little bit sea sick. Though there wasn’t really much rocking.
Our next stop was Grafton. A sister town to Sydney if there ever was one. A maze of one streets that go away from your destination and two way streets to nowhere.
We were stopping only for a late lunch, stupid daylight saving time zones. Kelsie wanted KFC which we couldn’t find, then settled for Hungry Jacks which wasn’t cooking any meat products because their ‘meet cooker’ had caught on fire. We don’t know if it was a machine or a person but they only had fried goods available. So we last resort went to McDonalds. Which much like the KFC at Mermaid Beach was above its car park. To get inside you had to go up stairs evasive its elevator was out of order. You could not make this up!
We only had 300km left to travel to our destination Tamworth. The GPS estimate of 4 hours what’s as ominous as it was optimistic. Potholes galore, a narrowly missed kangaroo and a few near meltdowns and we made it.
Despite the rally like route there was some epic scenery! We missed a good 150km of it after dark. The pub at Erol was packed! We wish we could have stopped. Or Yaralla, some big Friday nights were underway!
