Well dear readers to paraphrase Ben Folds tonight is our last night in town. It has been a re-energising holiday that is for certain. Kelsie and Ethan have put their usual twists on things, but for the most part have chosen the path of sharing and compromise over the stubbornness and selfishness of previous holidays.
Today was not without its highlights though.
A late start on this our nation’s most controversial day, Echuca town was packed, but almost half the regular shops were shut and those that were open were running low on staff for service. Daddys top 3 spots to try for coffee were shut or a ludicrous wait time. But the 3 galahs was able to get a coffee out in quick time and still provide colouring pages for Kelsie and Ethan to kill the short wait.
Lunch at Cape Horn winery, first the GPS couldn’t find the quickest route, it tried to take us into NSW then through some back paddock tracks. This was overridden by Mummy and Daddys memory. When we found the corrugated dirt road, we knew we were on the right track. If you thought the potholes in Victoria last year were bad, the Rav4 was rattling so hard, Daddy thought his Coffee might churn.
Cape Horn was packed, the food was excellent, Pizzas and Cheese platters, Kelsie and Ethan tried many things on the platters much to Mummy and Daddys delight. Though this has been improving since Mummy and Daddy introduced a reward point system. Ethan even tried blue cheese though he preferred the Camembert. They also enjoyed the playground and chess board. Next year we might go by boat.
Kelsie cut short her afternoon swim because of a hovering bee, her anxiety over possibly getting stung was not worth arguing with and she was happy to entertain herself in our accommodation.
Our last dinner was at the Caledonian Hotel. We even walked the 20min trip which would not have been possible 12 months ago. Ethan smashed his nuggets and chips and garlic bread for the first time this holiday. His plate was ‘put it back in the cupboard’ clean. Kelsie also devoured a large broccoli floret in one mouthful for a reward point. Daddy either entered a Travla beer competition or the female bartender wanted his phone number, time will tell.
