I’m bored… On the road to Gundagai

After the usual excited-frantic final pack and the regular Saturday swimming lessons, we were on the road at 11:04. At 11:11 Ethan declared he was bored… Buddy, we weren’t even out of Dingley yet!

At some point during the trip, Kelsie declared “It was a bad idea that I forgot my lip gloss”

We decided to take a detour through Violet Town. Kim – reading off a list of things to do/see in Violet Town, “there’s the pool”, Kelsie – “Can we go in the pool”, the pool had about 6 inches of water and was green. Sorry, Kelsie not today. They also had a public wood fire bbq, not in service, someone left the roller on the wicket. it looked pretty bogged. And the bowls green has seen better days.

There was plenty of flooding around Wangaratta, thankfully nothing had spilled onto the Hume yet.

For another detour, we went to Beechworth so the kids could get their ‘passports’ stamped and pick up treats for after dinner. This detour took longer than planned as Kelsie saw a toy shop and had to go in and look at everything. Eventually settling on a dissolving clam shell that reveals a bracelet/necklace. A true Australian souvenir. Ethan at least picked a stuffed cockatoo, that for the rest of the day proceeded to invade everyone’s personal space.

From Beechworth, we were trying to work out our accommodation for the evening. Kelsie – Candy Guy (Gundagai). Nope booked out. Wagga has only 1-star rating accommodation left, moldy shower, bed bugs, frog in the fridge… No thanks. Finally found a place in Holebrook. You know the landlocked town halfway between Melbourne and Sydney that has its own submarine. I’m glad we just lived through a renovation, otherwise, we wouldn’t be used to sharing an apartment that’s smaller than Kelsie’s old bedroom.

We had dinner at the Riverina hotel in Holebrook. There must have been a local bowls regatta because it was packed. We had to wait an hour for our dinner. Thankfully the kids were amused for a while by the jumping castle. But Kelsie wanted to go into the ‘Disco room’ and watch the live music.

I’m outside writing this post, Kelsie and Ethan have fallen asleep in less than 10min. I might have to sleep outside if I wake them when I go back in.

Song of the Day: On the Road to Gundagai. Kelsie – What’s this rubbish!

Flooded roads: 0

Potholes avoided: All of them!
